Polished concrete has a lot to offer in the way of benefits. Below, you can see the most notable benefits of this attractive, functional flooring system:
    Concrete Polishing Minneapolis

    Increased Durability

The concrete polishing process strengthens and densifies your concrete, making it much more durable. These floors can withstand hard impacts, rough abrasions, and high foot and vehicle traffic without the worry of damage. No matter if it’s in your business or your garage, you can rest assured your polished concrete can handle the demands of your space.
    Dimensional Shingles

    Superior Resistance

As the polishing process densifies the concrete, it makes it non-porous. Unpolished concrete will absorb all manner of chemicals and water, resulting in significant damage over the years. Polished concrete will repel these substances, ensuring that your floor doesn’t stain or crack because of a simple spill. Just clean it up like usual without the worry of damage!

    Sustainable Flooring Solution

When you choose to polish your concrete, you’re making the most of the floor you already have. There is no waste from floor removal and replacement. Not to mention, many flooring materials create waste from making cuts and discarding blemished pieces. With this waste reduction and polished concrete’s longevity, you’ll have a sustainable, green flooring system that helps keep our environment clean!
    Strip Shingles

    Extended Longevity

Thanks to the durability and resistance of polished concrete, it’s lifespan is significantly increased. Without the worry of frequent repairs or premature replacement, you can rely on your floor to stick around for the long run. When properly maintained and cared for, polished concrete can last for more than 25 years!
    Dimensional Shingles

Polished concrete has a glossy, reflective finish. This reflectivity can easily illuminate a room without the need for excessive lighting. This can allow home and business owners to reduce the lighting in their spaces to achieve the same visibility. By reducing the need for light fixtures, you can use less power and save money on your energy bill every month!

    The Concrete Polishing Process

The concrete polishing process begins with our cleaning and inspection of your floor for damage. Any significant damage, such as cracks or chipping, will be repaired. Any minor blemishes will be ground out during the next step. Once repairs are finished, we’ll begin the rough grind. We’ll start with a floor grinder equipped with a coarse-grit diamond grinding wheel. This is a three- to four-step grind that begins with a 30- or 40-grit wheel and finishes with around a 150-grit wheel. Next, we’ll apply an impregnating sealer that strengthens and densifies the concrete, protecting it from the inside out. After the concrete is sealed, we’ll start polishing with a 100- or 200-grit polishing wheel. Polishing is a four- or five-step process that finishes with a 1,500- or 3,000-grit polish, depending on the shine level you desire. Once we’re finished, your floor is ready for use!

      Frequently Asked Questions

Can any concrete floor be polished?

Most concrete floors can be polished, old, or new. However, if your concrete has sustained extensive damage that compromised its structural integrity, it may not be a good candidate for polishing. It’s rare for a concrete floor to be so damaged that we can’t polish it, though. In most cases, any damage can be repaired, and your concrete can be polished, so long as it’s structurally stable.

      Can concrete polishing remove stains?

In short, yes and no. Whether the polishing process removes a stain from your concrete depends on the individual stain. Some stains are superficial and haven’t soaked deeply into the concrete. However, some stains have gone unnoticed for a long time, allowing them to permeate deep into the floor. The rough grind during the concrete polishing process will only remove a small amount of the surface. As a result, only the shallow, superficial stains will be removed. If you have an old stain that has seeped into the floor, it may lighten up, but it will likely still be there.

How much does concrete polishing cost?

A few factors go into determining how much it will cost to polish your concrete floor. Some of these factors include the size of your floor, the project’s complexity, and the level of sheen you wish to achieve. The most significant cost factor for concrete polishing is how many grinding levels will be needed to get the floor to the finish you want. The cost can also go up depending on any customized, decorative effects that you want to be applied before the polish, such as staining or stenciling. On average, you should expect to pay around $3 to $12 per square foot, depending on these factors.
